Swipe Mobile App
Securely processing transactions anywhere.
…
Understanding.
While POS apps were becoming the norm in the US, international POS apps were often built poorly. Allied Wallet had the customer base and the resources to build an app that could provide a secure, intuitive experience while managing the payment processing laws abroad.
The app would work as a general platform, either scaled up or down with minor differences in its own experience to work within the limits of each country’s regulations.
Front end solutions.
It was vital that the app felt like an extension of a company's branding. Because of careful thought and planning, the marketing and product design libraries worked together as closely as possible. Users in numerous countries worked with outdated devices which had to be taken into careful consideration, and a full launch in both Play and iOS stores had to be choreographed.
Localization
A special amount of attention was given to white space around content to work with extremely long product names, pricing, and most importantly language translations for each country.
Error Messaging
Error messaging became extremely important for two reasons:
Making sure our partners are taken care of. They need to account for every dollar and through user interviews, we realized how stressful this could be.
Providing a quality service for our partner’s customers. Every second the app lags/loses service/doesn’t work was also a big paint point.
Providing Devices
Possibly the biggest limitation to the product. It was extremely costly to provide devices (including branding and shipping) and due to the legal requirements the latest tech available in the US wouldn’t work.
Outcome
Swipe worked well with Allied Wallet’s existing dashboard NextGen and provided numerous chances to advertise its prepaid card program. Existing customer satisfaction was improved and usability testing revealed that the app was positively received.
However, adhering to payment processing regulations in some countries was frustrating. We had to scale down existing functionality to meet these evolving standards, resulting in a less than stellar experience.
